The Virginia DCJS (Department of Criminal Justice Services) establishes and enforces minimum training standards for law enforcement, criminal justice and private security personnel. These licenses regulate the private security industry in Virginia and allow individuals to begin a career in security.
Be a minimum of 18 years of age (Unarmed officers)
Be a minimum of 21 years of age (Armed officers)
Be a United States citizen or legal resident alien of the United States.
The classes in this section meet the necessary requirements needed to become a DCJS officer. Potential unarmed officers just complete 18 hours of training to obtain their licenses; while armed officers must complete 50 hours. All potential officers must pass a formal examination and range qualification to obtain official certification.
