An armed security officer means a natural person employed to safeguard and protect persons and property or deter theft, loss, or concealment of any tangible or intangible personal property on the premises he is contracted to protect, and who carries or has access to a firearm in the performance of their duties.
The classes in this section meet the necessary requirements needed to become a DCJS officer. Potential unarmed officers just complete 18 hours of training to obtain their licenses; while armed officers must complete 50 hours. All potential officers must pass a formal examination and range qualification to obtain official certification.
